How Tixel i works

Tixel delivers very brief pulses of controlled heat with gentle pressure to the outer eyelids. The goal is to treat meibomian gland dysfunction and support a more stable tear film.

UNDERSTANDING YOUR SYMPTOMS

Could blocked eyelid glands be contributing to your dry eye?

Common symptoms

  • Itching or stinging
  • Redness
  • Light sensitivity
  • Eye fatigue
  • Blurry or fluctuating vision
  • Watery or tearing eyes

What is MGD?

The meibomian glands in your eyelids produce oils that slow tear evaporation. When these glands become blocked or do not function normally, the tear film can evaporate too quickly, causing evaporative dry eye.

Not every case of dry eye is caused by MGD. A complete evaluation helps determine what is contributing to your symptoms and which treatment is appropriate.

YOUR TREATMENT PLAN

What to expect

Before treatment

Your clinician will review your symptoms, examine your tear film and eyelid glands, cleanse the treatment area, and use appropriate eye protection. Topical numbing gel may be used.

During treatment

The handpiece is applied gently to the upper and lower eyelids. You may feel brief warmth and pressure. Treatment of both eyes takes approximately two minutes.

After treatment

Temporary watering or blurry vision can occur immediately afterward. Most patients can return to normal activities without planned downtime.

Typical treatment schedule

Our usual treatment course is three sessions spaced approximately two weeks apart. Your doctor may recommend a different plan based on your examination and response to treatment.

EVIDENCE AND SAFETY

Clear expectations, without overpromising.

In the FDA-reviewed pivotal trial, patients treated with Tixel showed improvement in tear breakup time, dry-eye symptoms, and meibomian gland scores through three months. Tixel was non-inferior to LipiFlow for tear breakup time at one month.

No device- or procedure-related adverse events were reported in that trial. Individual experiences and results vary.
