WHAT IS XEOMIN®?
Botulinum toxin, explained simply
Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces the nerve signal that tells a targeted muscle to contract. When carefully placed in facial muscles, it can soften expression lines that appear with frowning, raising the eyebrows, or smiling.
Botox® is a brand name
Patients often use “Botox” as a general term, but Botox® and XEOMIN® are different prescription botulinum-toxin products. The Eye Centers uses XEOMIN® (incobotulinumtoxinA). Units are product-specific and cannot be directly converted between brands.

What can XEOMIN® improve?
FDA-approved cosmetic uses in adults include temporary improvement of moderate to severe:
- Glabellar or “11” lines between the eyebrows
- Horizontal forehead lines
- Lateral canthal lines, commonly called crow’s feet
Your physician may also discuss other facial areas when appropriate. Some uses outside the upper-face indications above are considered off-label and require an individualized conversation about benefits and risks.
WHAT TO EXPECT
A short visit with gradual, temporary results
1. Consultation
We review your goals, facial movement, eyelid and brow position, medications, prior injections, and medical history.
2. Treatment
A series of small injections is placed into selected muscles. The injection portion usually takes about five to ten minutes.
3. Results
The median onset is approximately two to seven days. Effects typically last up to 12–16 weeks, although individual response varies.
WHY AN OPHTHALMOLOGIST?

Ophthalmologists are trained in the muscles, nerves, blood vessels, eyelids, brows, and ocular surface. That perspective is particularly valuable when treatment is planned close to the eyes.

AFTER YOUR INJECTIONS
Simple aftercare
- Avoid rubbing or massaging the treated areas for 24 hours.
- Follow your physician’s guidance about strenuous exercise during the first 24 hours.
- Makeup and a gentle skincare routine can usually resume right away unless instructed otherwise.
- Tell us about blood thinners, aspirin products, vitamins, and supplements. Do not stop prescribed medication without approval from the clinician who prescribed it.
Possible side effects
Temporary tenderness, redness, swelling, headache, or bruising may occur. Less commonly, nearby muscle weakness can cause asymmetry, brow or eyelid drooping, or visual symptoms. Rarely, botulinum-toxin effects can spread beyond the injection area and cause swallowing, speech, breathing, or generalized weakness symptoms that require urgent medical attention.

Questions about XEOMIN®
Will I look frozen?
The goal is to soften selected lines while keeping natural expression. Results depend on anatomy, dose, placement, and personal preference.
Is there downtime?
Most patients return to normal daily activities immediately. Small injection marks or bruising are possible.
Can I receive treatment while pregnant or breastfeeding?
Adequate pregnancy and lactation safety data are not available. The Eye Centers postpones cosmetic XEOMIN® treatment during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
When can I repeat treatment?
FDA labeling recommends retreatment no more frequently than every three months. Your physician will recommend timing based on your response.
