What is LASIK?
The laser-in-situ-keratomileusis, or LASIK, procedure is used to treat low to moderate degrees of nearsightedness as well as low to moderate amounts of farsightedness and astigmatism. This procedure uses two different lasers to allow for a completely blade-free surgery. The first laser uses creates a flap of corneal tissue, dividing the cornea into a top and bottom section. The top section is then folded back so that the second laser can be used to reshape the underlying bed of the cornea. Once the laser treatment is completed the flap is then returned to its original position on the front surface of the eye.
Am I a candidate?
At your consultation, we will perform an eye exam and testing to ensure you are a good candidate!
You will be required to be out of your soft contact lenses for at least two weeks prior to consultation (1 month for hard contacts).
You may not be a good candidate if you have any other ocular conditions or if you are diabetic with uncontrolled blood sugars. If you suffer from dry eye, you may be required to treat this prior to LASIK to allow for best results. Patients must not be pregnant or breastfeeding at the time of consultation.
