Technician training is a 12-week program that consists of both book learning and hands on approach. As you advance in your training, you will be introduced into the room to work alongside with an experienced technician. At the end of your training, you will begin your journey to becoming a C.O.A (Certified Ophthalmic Assistant).
What you can expect in your 12 weeks of training:
Week 1: Introduction to Ophthalmology and Anatomy and Physiology of the Eye
Week 2: Diseases and Disorders of the Eye and Systemic Diseases and Ocular Manifestations
Week 3: Optics and Refractive States of the Eye and Principles and Problems of Contacts
Week 4: Pharmacology and Microorganisms and Infection Control
Week 5: Comprehensive Eye Exams and Tests and Procedures
Week 6: Ocular Motility and Principles and Techniques of Perimetry
Week 7: Review Week (weeks 1-6)
Week 8: Low Vision, Pediatrics, and Patients with Special Concerns
Week 9: Refractive Surgery and Minor Surgical Assisting
Week 10: Care of Ophthalmic Lenses and Instruments and Patient Screening and Emergencies
Week 11: General Medical Knowledge
Week 12: Final Review
